The are six major religions in Rallu of which by far the largest is that of
Poseidon, God of the Sea and patron of the City. The Sea Kings
naturally worship him as do all the captains of Rallu ships and it would be considered
unlucky to sail on a ship which did not have the patronage of Poseidon. Only in the
Shadow Years have ships regularly set sail from Rallu
under the
protection of other gods. Roughly 40% of the population worship the great Sea God.
The other five religions each have similar size congregations (roughly 7-11% of the population).
Each of these (except the Mycretions) has a major temple in Rallu. After the end of the Shadow
Years the population became more diverse as inward migration grew and most of the gods of the
Wilderlands have a shrine somewhere in the city. Of the other major religions two, the
worship of
Natch Ur and
Mycr are testament to the cities cultural connections
with Viridistan. The three other major temples
belong to Nephtlys, Goddess of Wealth,
Tama Hama, Goddess of Desire, and
Kazadarum, God of the Dwarves.
Since the Shadow Years the cities main religions have acquired more power relative to that
of the Sea King. The main temples have jurisdiction within their own precincts and even those
who commit crimes outside those precincts may claim sanctuary. Wrongdoers confessing a crime
to a temple may opt to be punished by religious rather than civil courts.
The city laws provide for religious freedom for all but two religions are banned from the city
for attempts
on the life of the sea Kings that of
Enfilos and
Harmakhis (an empty temple to the God of Death and
Destruction stands in the city). In the time of
Forgon the Foolish the worship of Thoth was also banned
within the city and his adherents are still viewed with some suspicion today.
