At some time in the past the religion of
Amfilos on the
Isle of the Blest
appears to have given rise to the cult
of Enfilos, part god and part demon. Needless to say his worshippers say the worship
of Amfilos is a heretical offshoot of their religion.
Amfilos, however, is well-respected by many other religions all off whom see the
Moon Demon as an aberration who may not even exist or who may be an unfortunate folk-memory of
the Markrabs.
In any event the worshippers of Enfilos believe that he must be placated each full moon by a
human sacrifice.
Followers of Amfilos are the preferred victims and, failing those being available, anyone
who has received help or had any contact with that religion. Every full moon therefore
his priests hunt for victims, all clothed in black and with hoods that cover their faces
and have only the smallest eye slits. This they do because of a belief that the light of the
full moon or moonlight reflected in water causes leprosy. Victims are hung upside down with
their head in water until they drown.
For some reason this religion has become dominant on the island. Some say it is because the
Priests of Enfilos have been gifted unusual powers to persuade non-believers to join their cult.
Others say the reason is that although the cult can be viewed as evil its members are sworn
to help each other in time of need, although the priesthood bizarrely is exempt from this
oath.
The religious symbol of the cult is a crescent moon with its horns pointing downwards.
Worshippers of
Enfilos believe that silver is evil.
