Ghost Temple

The Ghost Temple is in origin a holy place of the ancient race of intelligent dinosaurs, the Saurians. When the Red Mantis came to Mediogalti Island they discovered the ruined temple and inside they found an unhatched Giant Mantis egg which they took to be a sign from Achaekek. They therefore claimed the temple for their own and nurtured the egg until it hatched. The creature that emerged from the egg, however, was not quite what they expected being a translucent white colour apart from its red eyes. In the few years that the Red Mantis cult tended the creature, which grew very rapidly, they discovered that it could turn itself invisible and hunt from the Ethereal Plane. They also discovered that its insatiable appetite was unfortunately not sated by the many prisoners they fed to it.

The cult fled further towards the mountains and built their now infamous headquarters, the Crimson Citadel. Once they had consolidated their power on the island, worried that the creature might spread its brood across the interior they sent an expedition to the Temple to assess the situation. Although the casualties were high the expedition concluded that such an expansion was unlikely to happen as the creature was cannibalistic and only kept a few of its young alive. The creature had, however, grown so large that it could no longer fit inside the temple and laired outside the front entrance. Meanwhile the Saurians who had suffered at the hands of the Red Mantis when the cult occupied the Temple found the Ghost Mantis and her brood impossible to dislodge.

The Red Mantis meanwhile have quietly rewritten their history implying to the outside world that the Crimson Citadel was their first choice of settlement on the island. The Temple itself has remained secret simply because those wishing to visit it would have to get past both the Saurians and the Ghost Mantis on the way in and again on the way out if they wished to live to tell the tale. As a result only a few know of its existence and fewer still its location.
