Mediogalti is the largest of the many islands located of the west coast of central Sudland, having formed at the drowning of
Azlant although some say it was already an island even in those ancient times. To date no Azlanti
ruins have been found on the island and the few traces of the Ghol-gan civilisation that have been found suggest that the island lay on the outskirts of that empire. For many thousands of years the island seems to have been uninhabited (at least as far as humans were concerned) with would be settlers no doubt put off by unusually large number of reptillian creatures.
The lush jungle of the interior is indeed home to thriving tribes of kobolds and lizardmen, not to mention a wide selection of dinosaurs, none of whom are particularly well disposed towards mammalian interlopers. A deep lagoon on the northern shore, however, proved tempting for the first pirate lords of
The Shackles and the harbour has been held by an ever changing roster of pirate captains for
three thousand years.
In -2159 Ximena, leader of a group of priest-assassins based in the temple of Achaekek the Mantis God, foresaw in a vision the destructon of her temple in the aftermath of the religious wars raging in Azir at the time. Her sect had grown wealthy in the chaotic unrest in Azir and resolved to relocate to a place where no goverment or rival organisation would ever find them. They therefore resettled on Mediogalti Island and built a secret headquarters that came to be know as the
Crimson Citadel. Those wishing to contact the assassins, however, were directed to the
pirate port which came to be known as Ilizmagorti.
Many governements would of course like to clear both the pirates and the assassins of the island but besides overcoming those twin enemies who would no doubt unite if threatened the unpredicable weather around the island caused by its proximity to the
Eye of Abendego makes such an invasion unlikely.
