Although the Azlantis built their Empire later in time than the Cyclops of
Ghol-gan far fewer traces of them survive. Scholars
attribute this to the fact that the Cyclops built many structure in the hills and mountains of their realm which
therefore survived the Drowning of Azlant.
The great Azlanti cities, however, were built in the lowlands and the most famous, Azlant City itself, is believed
to have been sited at the very centre of the Eye of Abendego. Further the
Cyclops of the Ghol-gan civilisation liked to record their achievements in hieroglyphs in stone monuments. No such
records exist for the Azlanti.
Many legends exist about the Azlanti, however, including that they had vehicles that could move through the sky
and others that hovered just above the ground. They are also believed to have built weapons of unimaginable power which may be how they managed to, in a wantonly bizarre act, kill their own god, Azoth, thus bringing their civilisation crashing down around them.
The artefacts that do remain from the Azlantian period are mostly magic items that are so very powerful that wars
have been fought over them.
The possession of such items can be, however, dangerous for the owners. Many have died while experimenting on
such items without understanding their true purpose while other tales say such items can drive men insane or possess
their owners. Even the most skilled artificers have never managed to duplicate an Atlantean item or understand the
forces that power them.
What little is known definitely about the Azlant Empire comes from the scant ancient records of other civilisations
who regarded the Azlantis as near gods. At first they appear to have been friendly towards surrounding peoples
but later they seem to have taken to plundering other lands for their resources.
