The Church of Pelor is the official state religion of the Gherant Coast. The history of the
Church's founding was a little unusual but certainly at first worked well for
the founders of Westcrown. Numerous local gods were swept up and designated 'saints' or 'minor deities in the
pantheon' making it easy for the local population to convert to the new religion. Less successful in the long term was the designation of
Asmodeus and Mammon as 'fallen angels' as these
entities, previously unknown in the region, now have their own churches in Westcrown who vie for influence with the Church of Pelor among
the upper classes.
Since the break up of the Kingdom of the Gherant Coast the church has acted as a unifying force among the original cities and all the leaders
of Coast respect its role in facilitating local diplomacy. The leader of the Church, the current Archbishop of Westcrown, Colonis Thrux, however, spends much of his time on the internal issues of his home city trying to balance the need to support the state, the threat from other
religions with different ethical standpoints, the canvassing of the City's upper class to support the ongoing funding of various Church projects, and the general material and spiritual wellbeing of the Church's ordinary worshippers.
