The Dominion of Miredor is one of the Seven Dominions created when the ancient Elven realm of Miredor split up. The Sundering of that land in -736 left the new Dominion with the old capital of the Elvish realm Carasalas and much other infrastructure as the area had been the centre population for the Elves. After the split many Elves retreated to the solely Elven realms of Terilaen and Taur Galen leaving Half Elves as the dominant political force. Nevertheless those Half Elves and Men who chose to live in the new Dominion were those attracted to Elven sensibilities and the Elven way of life. This has remained the case in the Half Elven community but although still common in the humans who live in rural areas the human citizens of the largest city of Alsarias now tend to view the world in much the same way as the humans in any other Dominion city. Nevertheless the Dominion gives a small glimpse of that ancient Elvish culture that built cities and pursued science before the Great Cataclysm in the lands now covered by the Great Ocean. The soil of Miredor is fertile and the rainfall allows many food crops to be grown with little difficulty. Although Miredor's urban population is small compared to other Dominions its agricultural land use tends to be high with many small villages and villas scattered throughout the land. The ruler of Miredor is Araphor, the only female ruler in the Dominions, but possibly the most competent. The Dominion has a small navy of Elven-built boats most of which are kept anchored at Ostelor and Ro-mollo when not patrolling the coast. |
