Miredor

Miredor, otherwise known as the Seven Dominions, was an ancient Elvish kingdom, that was split into seven provinces after the Great Darkness. It lies on the northwest coast of Sudland and comprises all of the fertile countryside in that region. Its northernmost province, Maldor lies just south of the Gate of the West and has ports on the Blue Sea.

Miredor's most notable geographical feature is the Yellow Mountains range which form a spine down the middle of the country, separating the northern coastal regions which are blessed by a fertile soil and a mild climate from the drier regions to the south and east. The mountains, however, have a limited amount of passes restricting north/south communication.

The Seven Dominions are Maldor, Miredor (which contains the capital of the ancient Elven kingdom), Taur Galen, Terilaen, Pel, the Drel Coast and Hyarn. Of these four (Maldor, Pel, the Drel Coast and Hyarn) are dominated by humans, two (Taur Galen and Terilaen) are almost wholly Elven in character while Miredor itself has a half-elven ruling elite.

The rulers of each of the Dominions form a Council of Lords which rules on disputes between the dominions and attempts (mostly successfully) to form a joint foreign policy. The style of government is, however, quite Elven and although all the Lords are wealthy enough to interfere in the political issues which interest them they largely leave their subjects to rule themselves. The large cities for instance will have ruling officials which are generally elected by a section of the populace.

The Seven Dominions have had a largely peaceful history being protected from invasion by desert to the South and East. The main threat to them comes from the sea and their coastal communities are vulnerable to Ulbarean piracy.
