The Sundering of Miredor

Miredor was an ancient Elvish kingdom on the northwest shores of Sudland situated on either side of the Yellow Mountains. Blessed by a mild climate and fertile soil the realm became a haven for many refugees when the Great Darkness fell. The Elves knew they were making a sacrifice in opening their borders in this way but felt they had no choice if they were to remain true to their values.

The refugees were dominated by tribes of Southerners who settled in areas set apart for them by the Elves and in time came to think of the new land as their home. After the Great Darkness was lifted the Elven High King Eluriel considered the future of his realm and his people with his counsellors. In the end in a momentous occasion 736 years before the founding of Cambria the King decreed that Miredor should be split into seven dominions each ruled by a diffent lord, some elven and some human, but a Council of Lords ahould also be formed to rule on disputes between the dominions and to take thought for necessary joint action.

Eluriel himself laid down his crown and went north to found a new Elven realm in the forests of the north to the west of what is now Cambria.Until this day new lords of the Dominions have to swear on the ancient Crown of Miredor that they will uphold the duties and obligations of their position.
