Tashal
The origins of the city of Tashal go back to -580 when newly independent Tammarik established a small fort at the site to guard the important crossing of the River Kald. A small town grew up around the fort and nearby tribes found it a convenient base to trade with the Southrons of Tammarik. Soon the Kenzin were building warehouses there and the city expanded. When Tammarik joined the Kenzins in a newly independent Sankhar in 57 the status of the city was an important part of the negotiations.
Tashal is a small city compared to its larger neighbour to the south and also a complete contrast. The reason is not hard to discover as athough it is in the territory nominally controlled by the Wazir the city is run by the Kenzin in accordance with Kenzin laws and is dominated by Kenzin culture. The city serves as an important trading hub with Kenzin merchants purchasing goods from Tammarik and arranging their distribution to the rest of Sankhar.It is also an important trading hub for Reet merchants who sell the produce of the Kald valley here to Tammarik buyers so that city can be fed. A third commercial strand for the city is provided by Marwhini horse dealers who attract buyers for their stock from both near and far. In the autumn there is a week long event, the Lyryn Horse Fair, where merchants from as far afield as Reetland and Aratola will come to make deals with Marwhini and Logath sellers. The wandering Tabaxi also make a point of attending the fair with their brightly coloured caravans and it serves as a 'clan gathering' event for them to exchange stories and arrange marriages.
Crime is generally lower in Tashal than Tammarik with the Tammarik Thieves Guild showing little interest in the city part from the week of the Horse Fair. Prices are, however, higher in the city and property more expensive than in Tammarik. There is a small monastery of the Order of the Golden Light in Tashal, the only one in the country outside of Kenzin territory.
