Reets

After the end of the Great Darkness while the first of the Marwhini were spreading out on the plains of Sankhar another group of Reets were settling in the fertile Kald valley. In -452 the leaders of this community formerly acknowledged the overlordship of the King of Reetland. When the Eastern Horde appeared on the plains of Sankhar in -297 the folk of the Kald valley rallied behind the Reetland banner and formed the backbone of the Reetland army that held the Crossings of Falkar.

Although that battle is remembered as a glorious victory in the history of Reetland, however, it is not remembered so fondly by the Reets in Sankhar. In the subsequent treaty the King of Reetland was happy to set the boundary of his kingdom at the River Solus to the west effectively abandoning the whole of the Kald valley to the Khanate empire. The Reets prospered under the Khanate since the Khans valued the farmers who fed their armies but they never forgave the Reetland monarchy and despite their cultural connections with the western kingdom their loyalty to the Sankhar crown is strong.

The Reets in Sankhar in the Kald valley tend to be of a fairly conservative mindset seeing little point in changing they prosperous ways but many Reets have moved to other parts of Sankhar, drawn to its major cities or to other farming opportunities such as in the Marwhini controlled valleys of the White Mountains. Although by no means as martial a culture as those tribes dwelling on the Sankhar plains, the Reets are fine soldiers and provide many infantry and crossbow units to the Sankhar army.

The Reets in Sankhar are solidly members of the Pelorean Church but although they tend to follow the Reetland form of worship they are technically an independent church.
