At the Dawn of Time when
M'golo ruled a vast empire in the North he sent one of his most
trusted servants, the Arch Demon Zananku, to Sudland to steal its wood, iron, jade and myrrh.
When Mgolo was thrown back into Hell many of his most powerful followers suffered the same fate as their
master. But not Zananku. it is said the Zananku had a premonition of his master's fate and was
absent from his master's last fateful feast.
No longer in thrall to M'golo Zananku decided he would carve out his own empire in Sudland thinking that
no great powers existed in that region to stop him. At first he attempted to conquer the Nubian Empire without considering
how long and deep the tradition of magic has been in Nubia. He was defeated but recruited a Nubian sorceror
to his cause, Zaltan, who was later to betray him.
So began the long history of Zananku in central Sudland in which time after time he has been shown to be the root cause of the war and chaos in the region. Even if he is unmasked and defeated
he has always slipped away only to take shape again in a new form and a new guise many
centuries later when the vigilance of the Wise has faltered.
Among other roles he has played are the God-king of the
Mumakani and the Chancellor of
Tanturak. He was unmasked from the latter position and fled from that country over a thousand years ago.
Many think he may be due to return (if he has not already done so).
