Lord Sorrowspear is the wealthiest of the nobles of Damkina and also the chief critic
of the Overlord on the Noble's Council. A fearsome
fighter in his youth he has now grown somewhat portly in middle age and is protected by a
retinue of mercernaries at all times (in any other city this would be unremarkable but the
nobles of Damkina have a reputation for keeping their marshal prowess sharp into fairly
advanced years). Having been rebuffed by the
Lady Moonmist he is now the constant companion
of the Lady Hyrax who he met on a journey in the south.
Indeed with the possible exception of
Lady Starlight he is the most well-travelled
of the nobles and his arguments is Council tend to be backed by examples of how
other cities are run.
His arguments with the Overlord stem from the fact that he believes that Damkina should
raise its taxes which is something the Overlord refuses to countenance even though
the city's funds are running low. He is a staunch supporter of the Temple of Allworthy
but this is his only nod to tradition: he feels that Daminkina could learn from other
societies and is frustrated that his arguments largely fall on deaf ears. The only other
noble who he is friendly with is Lord Fairchild
and they often dine together.
The House of Sorrowspear has been the wealthiest of the noble houses for several generations
and the current Lord Sorrowspear has undoubtedly added to its good fortune with numerous
shrewd business dealings. As a result of this, however, he has had the most to lose from
recent disruptions in trade and this has added to his dissatisfaction with the Overlord.
He is a renowned patron of the arts and has also paid for many adornments to the Temple of
Alworthy. He also loves to ride and hunt and will often take a large retinue into the wilds
for a few days in pursuit of the fearsome beasts of the area.
