The Mablad Dwarves are a clan of southern dwarves differing in both appearance and culture from their northern cousins. They are slightly shorter than their northern counterparts and have a ruddier complexion and shorter wirier beards. The
latter characteristic is of course of extreme importance to many Dwarves who tend to assume (probably mistakenly) that
the length of one's beard is an indication of Moradin's favour. Whether they feel slighted by Moradin in any way is not
known but they tend to chiefly favour the worship of
Valkauna, the Dwarven goddess of oaths.
Taking advantage of the sundering of Miredor the Mablad Dwares arrived in the dominions soon after they were first founded
and obtained permission from the
Pel to cross their lands and found their city of
Blackflame in theYellow Mountains. Whether the Pel understood quite how large the numbers of the Mablad
Dwarves were is a point that has been debated ever since.
Once in the Yellow mountains the Dwarves quickly found natural caves and passages which they enlarged to suit their needs.
The Dwarves were charged with keeping the road across the mountains known as the Trenth Walk in good repair, a
condition they happily accepted as they were allowed to charge a toll for their trouble. It is no secret that
they have made a handsome profit out of the arrangement.
Other races in Miredor see the Dwarves as slightly paranoid and greedy. They do, however, remain true to their word
and also provide opportunities for the local economy as they are always looking for food to supplement the limited variety
of mosses and fungi they grow within their caverns.
