Secret History of the Cult of the Long Night
The following are key dates in the history of the
Cult of the Long Night extracted from the records in the Cult
library. Althoughthe records relating to the Cult's activities in
Sankhar are quite extensive the activities of the Cult in other countries are only
briefly touched on. In addition to the key facts mentioned the records have been annotated by M'lady.
| 256 |
Boosted in membership after the cessation of the
Cult's operations in
Reetland (not at all clear why this happened) the Cult's cell in
Tammarik purchase a ruined tower near the Reetland border. |
| 579 |
The Cult make a 'third and final attempt' to
enlist the aid of the Demon Queen of
Fenghast. She gives then short thrift. (I seem to have missed, in skimming through, the record of the first two attempts to form this alliance. Happily it never got off the ground.).
| 583 |
The Cult's library in transferred from
Miredor to the Tower (Miredor seems to be where the Cult was founded.).
| 621 |
Under pressure from the Elves the Cult ceases
operations in Miredor. The remaining Cult members in that country flee to
Cambria. (All but one. The Cult leader, the 'Chosen One' remained in Miredor and operated the Cult internationally from there until recently. Not sure if the 'Chosen One' is one immortal being or a title which is just passed down.)
| 837 |
The Cult claims responsibiity for the formation
of The Rift in Cambria. 'A Great Day for all! The catastrophe in Cambria will hasten the 'End Days'! Remember that many, many of our brethren in Cambria gave their lives to bring this about. (Normally I would treat this claim with some scepticism but the fact that there was extensive
loss of life in the Cult seems to suggest they might actually have been involved somehow.)
| 1110 |
The 16 year old
Duvan is recruited by the Cult in
Tammarik. (This is the individual we knew as Lomelinde.)
| 1115 |
The Cult is wiped out in Cambria. (The Cult leader in Tammarik, Ulrik, did not choose to pass on this tidbit to his followers. I was briefed on this bit of recent history for my current mission. The members were massacred in Pell's Hold but the Cambrian
authorities hushed it up due to the presence of a member of the minor nobility.)
| 1118 |
The 'Chosen One' sends his (her?) last message from
Miredor. 'Great days are ahead! Look for signs and wonders!'. No messages since.
(Again, Ulrik, did not pass on this fact to his followers. From about this time Ulrik's enthusiasm for carrying
out the professed aims of the Cult seems to have waned a touch.)
| 1119 |
Ulrik starts to collude with the authorities in
Tammarik only assassinating the Wazir's cast off favourites.
| 1125 |
The Cult assassinate, Penda, the Cambrian Ambassador to Sankhar, and brother of King Burdred.
(They appear to have done this in exchange for 'three ancient Malkorean Rings of Power' and much gold from a 'client' in Cambria. The Sankhat authorities suspected a political assassination but covered up the
matter as a 'hunting accident'.)
| 1126 |
Kulan (also known as Dernwyn) accepts the offer of a Malkorean Ring and joins the Cult. The power of the Ring means he quickly rises in the Cult's hieracrchy becoming second only to Ulrik and Duvan/Lomelinde.
(It would seem that this Ring was originally offered to Duvan but she turned it down.)
| 1127 |
Duvan discovers Ulrik's collusion and assassinates him becoming leader of the
Sankhar branch of the Cult herself. She also terminates the Cult's search for Penda's lover by
assassins working from Riavod. (Not clear if there are any other branches of the Cult still operational. Who
was 'Penda's lover'? And why were they after her (or him)?)
