Ruined Fort

The ruined fort on the Island of Empty Eyes was built some two hundred years ago by the Rahadoum Navy to act as a support base for their invasion of The Shackles. When that invasion failed the Rahadoum marines were withdrawn and the island was claimed by a Captain of the victorious pirate fleet, Bikendi Otongu. Captain Otongu used the fort as a base to raid the ancient Ghol-gan settlement of Sumitha, robbing the Cyclops there of their magical jewel, the Dreaming Stone.

Bikendi Otongu required the Stone in order to prolong his life and ascend to other dimensions but the rituals he performed were rudely interrupted by the vengeful Cyclops. Most of the pirate crew were killed by the Cyclops leaving a lone survivor, Ederleigh Baines, the Captain's apprentice. Bikendi himself was left hovering between life and death, a ghostly presence unable to leave the fort. In order to end his purgatory he needed the Dreaming Stone back and he repeatedly tried to raid Sumitha by possessing the body of the hapless Ederleigh. All his attempts were doomed by his ties to the fort and the spectral mage was therefore overjoyed when the crew of the Swallow came to the fort. Having waited a long time for such a break Bikendi played his cards carefully promising the party his treasure in exchange for the jewel and releasing Edersleigh into their care.

The party, having been given the island as their base by the Pirate Council, returned to the island and fulfilled their bargain with Captain Otongu. Predictably, however, the latest raid on Sumitha caused major conflict with its inhabitants.

The fort was constructed around an abandoned Cyclops tower and the Rahadoum added a 15 foot defensive wall to protect the area. Other than the original tower most of the other buildings inside the tower were made of wood. The fort was considerably damaged in the conflict with the Cyclops and many of the buildings are in ruins.
