Sumitha
Sumitha is one of the most ancient settlements in The Shackles. The site was carefully chosen by Cyclops seers nearly 30,000 years ago as the most likely to optimise their powers of prophecy. In its heyday it was regularly consulted by the leadership of the Cyclops Empire and was a large community with many levels below ground and access to the Underdark. Devoted to truthtelling the community of seers fell out of favour as the Cyclops turned to darker ways. Unlike many dissenters in the Empire the seers did not flee into the East but continued to give their advice when asked on the rare occasions it was requested by the Cyclops nobility.
The community was resilient enough to survive both the defeat of the Empire and the subsequent drowning of the surrounding lands. What caused it downfall, however, was the waning of the Cyclops gene pool which meant the powerful magic within the settlement could no longer be used. This together with a lack of husbandry of the island's resources in recent years has led to the Cyclops current pitiful state, bestial scavengers living in the remnants of their former glory.
Today most of the buildings are in a semi-ruined state and access to the lower levels has been cut off by the collapse of the corridors and tunnels that led there. The magic portal that leads to the Eye of Serenity demiplane remained open by the power of the Dreaming Stone but has no doubt closed now that jewel is irretrievably lost. The population in modern times was between 30 and 40 Cyclops but that number has been severe pruned by the recent conflicts.
