Anatal, like its sister village,
Onhir
is an ancient Elvish settlement dating back to the time of the
Dragon Empire. Its founding was said to
be blessed by
Cilborith himself. The work of its smiths, lead by high-smith
Aenor, is famed throughout the known world. These smiths sometimes
collaborate with the jewel-smiths of Onhir to add beauty and additional power to their work.
The road between Onhir and Anatal is thus well frequented by traders between the two
communities and is one of the safest in Alatanis being well patrolled by elven rangers.
The current leader of the elven community in Anatal is Lady Cildarith. The high priestess
of the Temple of Cilborith which is situated in the centre of the village is Cerdai. She,
like the Temple, is central to village life and the creations of the smiths are often infused
by divine magic for which she is the conduit.
The village is said to be defended not only by its elven rangers and the power of such
figures as Cildarith and Cerdai but by cunning magical traps created by its smiths over
centuries and
set into the surrounding landscape.
