Alas is a small fishing village near the
Cleft Road. Although ignored by many pilgrims and travellers
others are glad to take the ferry over the river and stock up on supplies. The small tavern
offers reasonably priced meals but not overnight accomodation. The area is famous for
a translucent bridge said to appear over the river in certain phases of the moon. Although
the villagers are superstitious and will not approach the bridge the excellent fishing in
the river means that few are perturbed enough to move away from the village.
From this
point on the Cleft Road the villages and towns are known to be frequented by
Viridian spies. The efficiency of their intelligent service
is one of the reasons why it is believed that the Viridians thought it unnecessary
to keep a garrison at the nearby
Arras_castle.
The population of the village is mainly human with a smattering of other races.
