Wortess is a fishing village populated mainly by humans that enjoys a fine
reputation for the quality of the
fishing boats it builds. Also adding to the prosperity of its inhabitants is the fact
that it sits on a junction of the road south from Viridistan
with one branch heading towards the
Holy Cities and the other south towards
Grindwell. In addition many pilgrims heading to the Holy Cities
from the east make Wortess their disembarkation point.
Despite their good fortune the folk of the village have a reputation for being surly and
most are slightly contemptuous of
Mycretians travellers although they have no trouble
taking their coin.
Part of the human population are of
Skandik descent, however, and these are generally
more agreeable although they find the Mycretian beliefs baffling. The Skandiks, whose ancestors
are
said to have originally come to the area in a longship that ran aground on the coast to
the north of the village, form the community's defence force and also enjoy hunting.
