The Kirani are a tall graceful people living in the jungles of western Sudland. They are culturally sophisticated and relatively advanced socially, making up the bulk of the population of the republic of
Koronande. In ancient times they became very friendly with the
Elves and their culture
owes a lot to elven sensibilities. In modern times, however, they are a confident people in their own right and the significant
Elvish population in Koronande (perhaps 10% of the population) tend to take a back seat in the country's politics.
The chief goddess of the Kirani is
M'pimpi and although the Elves liken her to
Hanali Celanil she is undoubtedly a different entity. M'pimpi stressses the
value of living with nature and for humans to be responsible for the environment they live in. She also gathers
the souls of the Kirani ancestors in a realm not to far from the Material World so that they can be consulted
by their desendants
Some see the relationship with the ancestors as holding back Kirani society but on the other hand their culture
has survived for thousands of years with this arrangement. In addition to ancestors the Kirani have a formalised
relationship with the animal kingdom through a totem animal which is chosen for each individual at age 12. A Kirani village will
try and make sure that as wide a selection of animals as is possible is chosen by its inhabitiants to
make sure their interests are intermeshed very broadly with the animals with whom they share their jungle world.
Both sexes of the Kirani wear 'jewelry' which consists of various brightly coloured plumage feathers of jungle
birds, held by narrow leather thongs about their wrists and foreheads.
They tend to laugh at the Hathorians who by contrast wear coloured stones
and crystals dug out of the ground.
