Rallu is one of the largest cities in the south of the Wilderlands but is considerably
smaller than some of the cities in the north having a population in
the region of 37,000. Roughly
75% of the population are human, with the remainder of the population being evenly
divided between elves, dwarves, halflings, gnomes and mixed raced individuals.
More exotic races are very rare in Rallu more so than in other cities.
Roughly 85% of the human population is of
Ghinorean descent with the largest group in the remainder
being
Common Viridians (about 5%). The Viridian ability to
breath under water very rarely manifests itself in the city population and typically occurs
about once is a
generation. Such individuals are said to be 'blessed by
Poseidon.
Strangers to the city are both welcomed (because of their coin) and rather suspiciously watched
(because of the ongoing war with Tula).
It should be noted that there are very few 'free' dwarves in the city. The vast majority of
the dwarven population are technically 'slaves' belonging to the King. The dwarves are used in
the royal public works programme and are in fact comfortably off and well protected by the
King. They live in a temple dedicated to
Kazadorum which is sited in the royal compound. They rarely
try to escape their lot as the only routes to freedom are through a inhospitable jungle or
stowed away in a ship for a long sea voyage. Nobody knows where the dwarves originate from.
They originally appeared in the time of King Danstone's father and speculation has it that
they were already slaves of some foreign power and were purchased by Rallu.
