Tieflings are an ancient race believed to be the offspring of evil men of the late
Pelorean Empire and demons who they summoned to earth.
They are widely known in Cambria as 'devil-men' and their appearance can be quite alarming to those who
have seen pictures of devils in the Pelorean scriptures. Nevertheless they were specifically mentioned by
St Olwyn when she enjoining her followers to treat all humanoids by their
deeds rather than their appearance. They are, however, not common in Cambria although they can be seen
on the streets of
Pell's Hold occasionally. In
Ragenport they are more numerous as they are in all the cities on the
coasts of the Blue Sea. There is also a substantial tiefling population in
Sambia and they hold a place on the Sambian Council. In the late eighth and
the ninth century there were even tiefling Kings of Sambia.
Although many tieflings can look surprisingly human (apart from the horns and tail) some have outlandish
skin tones and hair colour and their eyes are rarely the natural human shades. They also have a liking
for sorcery which tends to make good Peloreans suspicious of them. Indeed many it is said have the
power to call for aid from their demonic ancestors. This is the calling of the warlock and is rightly
outlawed in Cambria (and indeed Reetland).
