The Great Lady is the enigmatic ruler of The City and has been as far back as anyone
can remember (including
Alfonsus)
Although life in parts of The City e.g. the Slums can be desperate,
by and large The City as a whole functions pretty well as a cross-roads and trading place for
a multitude of
different cultures and races. Not many people are prepared to say a word against the
Great Lady and indeed a good technique for getting elbow-room in a crowded pub is to start
a diatribe against her. Of course there is a reason everyone is edging away from you....
One of the areas that clearly interests the Great Lady is the city portals. Trying to
tamper with these portals is said to be a swift way of getting into her bad books. It is
widely believed that the Great Lady can close a portal at will or change the conditions
of entrance to block the path of an individual or group.
