Count Draku is a rather shadowy figure of whom little is known outside court circles. He is thought to
be a foreign nobleman 'from the South' which most people assumes means
Sambia. The Sambian embassy, however, have no knowledge of his origins and have
speculated he may be from one of the kingdoms south of the Blue Sea. His appearance gives no clue as from
his features he could be a
Reet.
No one quite knows when Count Draku arrived in
Cambria but it may have coincided with the start of
King Burdred's reign.
What is known is that by about ten years ago he was a regular at court and has risen in the King's favour so high that
many see him as a rival to Cerdric.
He himself always maintains that he is an ally of Cerdric and indeed he is careful to never disagree with
the King's favourite in public.
Those who have known him a long time say he is very charming, if somewhat ruthless, and much prefers
diplomacy to violence. Noone knows very much about his personal life and if he has a lover he is very
discreet. He is often absent these days 'on the King's service' which has helped fuel the rumour that
he is actually the head of the
Red Asps. His own personal ambitions are unknown as he continually
presents himself as a loyal servant of the king.
He is not close to any of the other members of the court personally but is generally tolerated as
offering a counterbalancing opinion to Cerdric in the King's ear. On the other hand it is safe to say that although
he is obviously trusted by the King he is not particularly trusted by any of the other nobles.
Count Draku is known to be independently wealthy and the ability to throw lavish parties was one
of the reasons for his rise in society. The source of his wealth is something of a mystery, however, as
unlike most of the court he is not known to own any estates in Cambria.
