The Society of the Breaking Dawn is a part philisophical society, part political party, part communal movement in Brevoy which broke away from Society of the Morning Sunrise when its founder, Lyrisa, had a dispute with her ex-lover and collaborator, Arcuso. Lyrisa managed to attract perhaps a third of the membership of the original Society to her own cause and the number of her followers is now only slightly less than those of Arcuso. Despite Brevoy society seeing the split as a great rivalry the two societies have both flourished separately and frequently coordinate their activities for greater effectiveness as in their increasingly succesful campaign for the authorities in Restov to build a hospital. Lyrisa is like Arcuso an eminent historian with a deep knowledge of ancient civilisations. This has led to the same fanciful rumours swirling around her with the added speculation that, since her beauty seems to be enduring, she is the avatar of a Nubian goddess. Like Arcuso whatever secrets she harbours have not been uncovered by the Restov Thieves Guild and a similar number of their members have disappeared in the attempt. Despite or perhaps because of her rivalry and previous romantic entanglement with Arcuso she is also tranferring her headquartes to Iredar to a beautiful setting on the shores of Lake Silverstep. Like Arcuso, however, she still intends her movement to be active in Brevoy society. |
