The Knifeless ones are an order of monks based in a monastery called Eregost situated in the southern Yellow Mountains. The monks tend to isolate themselves from the rest of the world so little is known about them or understood by the citizens of the Seven Dominions. The secret of the monks is that they are all lycanthropes who are admitted to the monastery by invitation only. The order has existed for at least one thousand years and has been tolerated by the rulers of the Dominions as the monks seem to want to keep to themselves. Down the ages, however, a small number of monks have gone rogue and have had to be hunted down before they can do much damage. In general though it is said that the discipline of the monks training helps the lycanthropes ability to change form as they wish rather than in response to their more primitive urges. The current Master of the Monks is a were-lion, Ne-Eslem, whose personal symbol, a broken white claw on a grey background, has now become the symbol of the order. Whispers are, however, that his authoritarian rule has caused some dissension within the monastery. |
