The Chaoticians also known as the Chaoticks or the Friends of Chaos first came to public notice in 576 in Teringen when they painted the corrupt Mayor's private
residence in purple and orange stripes. Since then they appear to have mainly operated in the capital,
Coranan,
and have performed a number a pranks and practical jokes on leading public figures most of whom appear to have
deserved a certain amount of embarrassment. The public on the whole have been mildly amused by their actions but the
government have dedicated considerable resources to trying to uncover their identities. They have, however, had little
success in unmasking the pranksters and their only firm conclusion was that they had access to magic.
In those days there were a multitude of magic using clubs and societies all of whom denied any connection to the
group. The government hoped therefore that the formation of the
Royal Society of Arcane Practitioners would
facilitate the unmasking of the culprits or at least rein in their activities. Again they were disappointed but
the ascendancy to the throne of
King Saradoc who with the support of the Council has enacted strong anti-corruption
laws gradually led to a waning of their activities.
Then suddenly eight years ago a councillor in the town of Brickelburg was assassinated and the Chaoticians
claimed credit. In the subsequent investigation three members of the group came forward saying they thought
the leadership had crossed a line and gave details of how the group operated (which unfortunately was a cell
structure which meant they had no idea who the leaders were). They also demanded protection from the authorities
saying they now feared for their lives. The authorities quizzed them endlessly but could not corroborate their
story and the three subsequently disappeared after their guards were magically put to sleep. Since then
there have been two further assassinations, the Chaoticians have lost public support and no one is really sure
whether the whistleblowers were genuine or meant to mislead the authorities.
