Oleg's Trading Post is a small trading post about 90 miles west of Restov on the Western Road. Although the road was planned and built in the days of the Conqueror it was never completed and fizzles out into a track just past the Trading Post. The traffic along the road is therefore limited although it is used by some travellers heading west and wanting to use the Wyvern Bridge or maybe hitch a ride on the barges heading down the East Sellen River. The customers of the Trading Post are therefore mostly the hunters, trappers and foolhardy adventurers who inhabit the wilds. A small fortified manor house lies six miles to the north east. A similar estate lies three miles to the north west. Both trade with Oleg and are grateful they no longer have to travel to Rostov for their needs. Oleg himself had humble beginnings but became a skilled carpenter who was much in demand. However, he who grew tired of life in Rostov and particularly with the nobility who were unreliable at settling their bills. He did, however, meet Svetlana, his wife, who was the daughter of a minor nobleman and equally disenchanted with the affectations of the upper class in Restov. They eloped after Oleg managed to save enough to buy the deeds for the run down trading post. They are just about making ends meet although the future looks promising because the Trading Post has attracted more people into the area. The presence of the bandits, however, threatens their livelihood both directly and indirectly. |
