The Lake of the Temple Deeps is a large lake in north-eastern Altanis. The
lake gets its name from the legend that at the bottom of the lake is a temple
dedicated to
Neptune (some versions of the legend say the temple
contains the Throne of Neptune). The source of the legend is not known
since the lake is far too deep for any to dive to the bottom. It is speculated,
however, that there is an underground tunnel between the lake and the Winedark Sea.
There have certainly been many reports of tritons being seen in the lake and many
stories of other undersea monsters including giant sea spiders.
The lake is also full of fish, however, as the fishermen of the village of
Sykmet, which lies by the Lake's shores will testify.
