The Island of the Black Tower is small isle on the western edge of
The Shackles archipelago. Despite being near the
Cannibals Isles the notorious flesh-eaters tend to gove the Island a wide berth
because of its evil reputation. Many believe the ghost of the
Shrouded Queen still haunts the island despite the fact
she was presumed to have been defeated over a hundred years ago.
The island would be widely ignored as little more than a jungle covered rock were it not for its most obvious
feature, a tower built on the highest point of the island (120') which rises like a slim needle another 400'.
Indeed the structure of the tower looks very much as if it were not built by conventional means but by using
magic of great power to pull molten rock from the centre of the earth or (as sages have suggested) from another
dimension and shape it as desired. Although the isle is but half a mile in diameter approaching the foot of the tower is a difficult
and unpleasant task owing to the fact that all vertebrate life seems to avoid the isle leaving it crawling with
insects and spiders.
