Shang Ta is the God of the Sky and is also known as the Dreaming God.
He was once known as Shang Ti, one of the major Lawful Good god in the Wilderlands.
As time has passed, however, the teaching of his priests has become so esoteric and ethereal
that only those of reasonable education or monk-like devotion are now attracted to his worship.
Indeed the alignment of his worshippers is now mostly Neutral and there is no longer any
agreement within the sect regarding how its teaching relates to practical everyday matters.
Deep religious experiences are instead sought with the aid of hallucinogenic plants which often
leave the worshippers in a dreamlike state for days.
His priests acknowledge that there has been a change in the fortunes of their religion saying
that when the lost Amulet of Amalazar is restored to them the will of their god will become
clearer.
The symbol of Shang Ta is a lightning bolt on a black field and his priests cast spells
from the
Air, Good, and Knowledge domains.
He has a large temple devoted to him
Viridistan. Just outside
Renth, however, is another major temple to Shang Ta, which perhaps
because it was and still is a centre for the training of paladins, has remained more faithful
to the original tenets of the religion.
