Advice on dealing with Mycretians

The following are extracts from a guidebook written for clerics of Athena:

The religions of Mycr and Athena have historically not had much contact. Worship of Athena is centred around the geographic area of the old Empire of Kelnore whereas the Mycretians arose beyond its western borders. Perhaps because the values of the two religions are similar they have not spread into each other's core areas. Where there has been contact, however, the clerics of Athena have frequently been frustrated by the lack of cooperation that Mycretians have shown with the Temple. Some simple advice should be heeded when dealing with Mycretians.

• Do not talk about Mycr or Athena. You do not want to hear that Athena is a false goddess!
• Do not talk about otherworldly topics at all i.e. anything the general populace would consider a 'religious' topic
• Focus on the common goals of the Temple and Mycr and in particular the detailed goals relating to the immediate future. Share your concerns with them regarding the evils you are facing
• Read the 'The White Book of Mazzaroth', the Mycretian holy book.
• Base all your arguments on quotations from the 'The White Book of Mazzaroth' - the goals of the Temple are almost always supported by a passage within this book
• Try to understand the Mycretian point of view even if you disagree with it
• Be open and honest with them - Mycretians are very good at reading deception
• Do not cast any spells in their presence
• Do not wear magic items in their presence (they don't tend to work anyway in close proximity to Mycretians)
• Show interest and have respect for their 'spirit gifts'

Experience has shown that Mycretians are actually an intensely practical people and if the above guidelines are followed there is no reason why day to day cooperation should not follow. If you do happen to stray onto 'religious' topics the following points should be made.

• The Temple supports religious freedom for Mycretians and has always welcomed them into lands where it has influence
• The Temple shares many of the values and goals of the Mycretians
• Athena herself has always wanted to meet with Mycr
• The Temple encourages its clerics to read 'The White Book of Mazzaroth'
• Athena encourages the cooperation of all Lawful Good gods and those of close alignment
