Brigit appears to have been a minor goddess of the
Thabrian barbarians but her worship
has grown in rural communities of Tharbrian descent. Indeed many see her as a
kind of ideal embodiment of rural life in the same way that
Athena embodies
the ideal of life as a citizen in the city-states of Oerth. Her clerics emphasise the need
to live in harmony with nature and indeed she is worshipped by many druids.
Although her
original concerns appear to have been Fire and Poetry she is now seen as having wider
interests including craftmanship (especially blacksmithing), healing ability, druidic
knowledge and skill in warfare. She is also associated with both the home and hearth and
highlands
and is patron of excellence exemplified by wisdom and intelligence.
Communities who worship Brigit frequently have an active and fulfilling cultural life
however poor they may be in terms of monetary wealth.
Temples of Brigit always keep a sacred eternal flame which is her symbol but arrows, bells,
thresholds and doorways are also seen has having significance in her religion while among
animals ewes, dairy cows, bees, owls
and serpents are associated with her. She is a patron
of many
holy wells which are said to have healing properties. Although she herself is of neutral
alignment she has worshippers of all alignments.
