Apollo is the Chaotic Good God of Music, Peace, Healing and Prophecy. His domains are
Good, Healing, Knowledge, Magic and Sun. He is a patron of the arts and sees his portfolios
as being very complementary to those of his sister
Athena in providing the basis of civilisation. Once one of
the greatest gods of the
Empire of Kelnore his worshippers in
modern times are mainly poets and musicians. Some of the greatest musicians in known history
are said to have been inspired by Apollo.
There is a shrine to Apollo in the
Temple of
Athena in
Zothay where he is depicted as a handsome young man in golden garb
playing a lyre (which is his holy symbol).
As a god of peace Apollo espouses forgiveness and justice over revenge but when moved to ire
he can be a terrible opponent and has a bow which can rain down arrows on his foes causing
disease and
death. He is honest to a fault and despite his chaotic alignment was said to have
many followers in the legal system of Kelnore in the days of its glory.
Despite sharing an alignment with
Hermes and the fact that both of them have much love and
respect for their sister, Athena, there are
many stories indicating that Apollo does not get on so well with his brother.
The sources of the tension appear to be Hermes'
practical jokes, his protection of thieves of good alignment, his withholding of secret magical
knowledge from Apollo, and the fact that many Bards preferred the fun-loving Hermes to the
more serious Apollo. The honest and just Apollo is also bemused as to why the gods should
prefer
Hermes as an arbiter in their disputes. Athena has on many occasions had to mediate between
the brothers. All this, however, does not stop Hermes fulfilling his messenger role on behalf
of Apollo as well as the other Olympian gods.
