Dottari

The Dottari are the Gherant Coast's equivalent of the City Watch. First set up in Westcrown they were an integral part of the city's success, an honest and efficient law enforcement agency repected by the population at large. The Dottari in Boren are still largely that but in Westcrown itself the story is different. 'The fish rots from the head' is a common phrase and the appointment of the Mayor's whimsical dilettante nephew Iltus as commander of the force has done nothing to halt the creeping corruption undermining its reputation. By and large, however, he leaves the detailed running of the force to his four sub-commanders who he may support or leave out to dry as the mood takes him.

Luckily for the citizens of Westcrown the bulk of the force are under the command of the most honest and competent of the four commanders, Saria Roccin, who is responsible for the patrols in the main city and the guards at the city gate. She knows the limits of her power, however, and will not either investigate the Shadows or arrest any noble unless their crime is so shocking it is likely to embarrass their peers. She co-operates reluctantly with Order of the Golden Chalice who she sees as overbearing and self-important agents of the nobility. The other commanders, in ascending order of cynicism and corruption, are Arik Tournos (Warden of the Rego Cader, the Ruined District), Scasi Bolvona (Warden of the Canals) and Lhiana Strikis (Warden of the Noble District).

Dottari all wear there particular city's emblem stencilled in black on a red background either on their shields or on a tabard. Officers wear a similar emblem but in red on a black background. A standard squad of six soldiers always will have always have a seventh ranking officer present. At each Dottari barracks in the city there will be at least one captain (responsible for five squads) in charge.
