Damkina

Geography

Damkina is situated on a small island in the middle of Vast Lake. The island is essentially a single hill atop which stands the Overlord's palace. Although the city has walls these are largely redundant as the rest of the island is hardly big enough to hold an army capable of maintaining a siege. The shores of the island also slope steeply down suggesting the hill would look more like a mountain if the lake were drained. Indeed noone has ever plumbed the depth of the lake which is twenty miles in diameter and a favourite haunt of water elementals.

The surrounding lands are largely untamed wilderness apart from the estates of the Damkina nobles and pockets of widely dispersed settlement. The winters can be harsh although the climate round the lake is somewhat milder than the surrounding lands. In the spring flooding regularly occurs as the snow melts in the mountains exacerbating the seasonal heavy rains: most travel and trade occurs in the summer and autumn.

Both humans and beasts in the area tend to be primitive. The roaming tribesman are generally of Elephan or Confed stock and have no more than stone weapons although smaller groups of Amazons may also be encountered. Beside the monstrous beasts in the region there are also mammoths, mastodons, and sabre-tooth tigers.
