Atwain Castle

Atwain Castle, held for centuries by vassals of the Warlord, guards the town of Atwain whose population mainly consists of halflings. It is an ancient building and no one knows exactly how old it is but is believed to pre-date the founding of Quitak. The size of the foundation stones of its outer walls have given rise to the local legend that the original castle was built by giants. The other part of the castle that is clearly very ancient are its cellars which include an enormous vaulted room which could easily hold 2,000 people.

The castle needs a minimum garrison of 300 troops to man its walls in the event of a siege. After the Altanian tribesman switched their annual attacks to the west of the mountains, however, the Warlord only kept a skeleton garrison in the castle as he deemed it was unlikely to be attacked. The few survivors to make it back to Quitak reported that many of the castle towers were destroyed in the attack of Xathragot and her brood and the Great Hall was set on fire.
