Atwain

Atwain used to be a large prosperous halfling village with a population of over 1,000 (many of whom live in the outlying farms). It was famous for its pipeweed farms and it exported pipeweed to Quitak and many neighbouring communities. Unfortunately it was also the nearest town to the lair of the red dragon Xathragot. The enterprising halflings began to advertise this fact to would-be heroes and made a profit by equipping adventuring parties drawn by tales of the dragon's hoard. None of these parties ever came back but it did not stop others queueing up to take on the dragon. Eventually Xathragot decided to make an example of the halflings and flew out of the mountains with her brood. Half the town was burnt to the ground with much loss of life. Xathragot let her brood hunt those who tried to escape and few of the refugees survived.

It is not known what the situation is in Atwain at the current time but Xathragot or her allies appear to have cut off trade from the south to Quitak. The Warlord must have other priorities to attend to since many would have expected him to send a force to relieve the town by now.
