Arramas is a village on the
Cleft Road close to the mountains of the
Haunting Range. The majority population consists of
Tharbrian tribesmen but at any one time at least half
the males of the village will
be away hunting. Defending the village and hunting are considered the only fit occupations
for the warrior males of the tribe. Women too can choose this lifestyle but
most prefer to practice smallscale agriculture. The Tharbrians largely barter their produce
in the local market but there are a number of halfling and half-elven merchants and
shopkeepers in the village and many pilgrims and travellers prefer dealing with them.
The perils of the Haunting Range are considerable as the unnatural howling winds may contain
voices of vengeful spirits. The tribesmen thus all wear charms to protect themselves against
the spirit world and the shamans of the tribe are said to be able to control or banish
harmful spirits. The village appears to pay little attention to defence relying on the
reputation of its warriors and the skill of its shamans. It is said that anyone robbing or
harming a Tharbrian of Arramas would need a fast horse as the shamans of the tribe are able to
raise the spirits
of the mountains against them within a radius of thirty miles.
