Zakuta is the only one of the
Holy Cities which has no
Viridian occupying forces. In fact it is the only
one of the Holy Cities where pilgrims make up the minority of the population. It does
have a large itinerant population, however, as it is a favoured destination for the
desert tribes to water their livestock and trade. Although it has a few permament buildings
it has the feel of a large desert oasis with lush vegetation and most businesses being a
matter of stalls and tents. Even its most favoured tavern, run by a family of elves, is
entirely without permanent walls.
The green environment means that it is the favoured entrance to the caverns for woodland races
as well as individuals from the desert tribes. It is famous, however, for having the
largest cavern entrance and passageways conducive to beings of huge size. It is therefore
used by giants and dragons although these beings are infrequent visitors and most pilgrims
who come to gawp at these fabulous creatures go away disappointed.
Despite the absence of Viridian troops it is well monitored by Viridian spies although it is
said that the local population know most of their identities.
