Situated some 60 miles in from the coast and 30 miles upriver from Westcrown Westport is a bustling
town with a population nearing 5,000 and a centre for trade on the River Andian. It was original sited by the great Rikan falls as a point
where all goods had to be conveyed by portage from the docks above the falls to the docks below the falls. Its importance was somewhat
lessened by the building of a great feat of engineering and magic in -1002, a 'boat lift' which was the centrepiece of a series of canals dug to enable all but the largest ocean
going vessels to bypass the falls. Sadly the 'lift' was damaged in the floods of -331 and the more cost conscious Westcrown Councils of the city's later years have refused to repair it.
In truth not many vessels were still using the 'lift' when it failed as many businesses had found Westport a suitable staging post to
set up workshops to process the raw materials being transported downstream. Indeed many small business owners find Westport an attractive place to live away from the unsavoury politics of Westcrown and in the last few decades away from the threat of the
'Shadow Scourge'. Although the town's dock area like any other docks are in any other settlement seems to attract a criminal element the Port Watch generally keep good order.
The efforts of the Watch are bolstered by the presence of of a small fort and garrison of the
'Order' who were specifically deployed here to ensure the
smooth flow of trade along the river. The paladins of the 'Order' will frequently join the crew of vessels sailing upstream in an effort
to discourage river piracy which from time to time flourishes along the Andian.
