Tol Turgul

Tol Turgol is small island in the Bay of Drel roughly 14 miles in length. It is the home and private estate of Phorakon IV, the current ruler of Maldor, the most northerly of the seven Dominions. Its central peak, an extinct volcano, rises to 900' and forms a useful landmark for those navigating the Bay.

In origin the island was the private fief of a noble Elven Lady, Miriel, who used the island for trysts with human lovers down the years. The island was well defended but in -321 the Ulbarian warlord Danix launched a powerful assault on the island while Miriel and her human companion Phorakon I, one of the early Lords of the Dominions, were present. Phorakon was a great warrior and the Ulbarian fleet was repulsed with heavy losses but Phorakon himself was killed in the assault. Miriel was distraught with grief and sailed into the West, leaving the island as a weregild to his descendants. Also left to the family was a reputably unsinkable elven ship Swanlight and a variety of elven communication devices.

In current times Phorakon IV spends up to 6 months each year on the island but seems to have no problem keeping in touch with important affairs in Maldor. His official residence on the island is Caras Nul, a castle on the slopes of the central peak, but he spends much of his time in the small port of Mirlond in the south of the island.
