Tarantis

Barley Butterstern runs the largest bakery in Tarantis and he specialises in catering for large events such as banquets, marriages and other celebrations. He employs ten boy apprentices and two gnome assistants. Although he does well for himself partly by underpaying those he employs, he grumbles somewhat about the breadmaking community in Tarantis. His chief complaints are

• The other bakers pay their apprentices too much. Some professions don't pay their apprentices anything in Tarantis. In particular they tend to pay the same to all races thus missing out on what could be an extra source of profit since halflings in particular are good bakers but could be a cheap source of labour.
• Unlike the other businesses in Tarantis the bakers tend to cooperate, freqently subcontracting business amongst themselves and even lending each other apprentices. This enables the other bakers to compete for large orders and takes away business from himself. As he sees it large orders should be going to the largest bakery.
• The other bakers are far too cheerful. What's there to be cheerful about?
