Rickety's Squibs

Rickety's Squibs is a boatyard on the Slithering Coast run by Rickety Hake that specialises in a discrete trade in constructing 'squibs'. A squib is a boat that has been refitted to disguise its previous identity. This is not just a question of a new name and paint job since most ships are recognised by their profile on the high seas. A successful deception therefore depends on rebuilding the superstructure and rigging and typically costs as much as 20% of the original price of the ship.

The boatyard lies on a concealed river estuary on the coast. The estuary is hidden from view by a headland so if you know what you are looking for the best way to find it is to note the muddy brown outflow of the river into the blue ocean. The estuary is the territory of water nagas with whom Rickety was careful to negotiate and come to a working arrangement. Sailing further up the river is therefore discouraged.

Rickety's main residence was once the summer retreat of a Sargovan noble and it is here that you can stay in all its decaying elegance. The house boasts a taproom and a mess hall and there is a nearby market for supplies. Rickety's labor force lives in small huts close to the main house. A typical refit takes 5 - 8 days.
