Southerners

'Southerner' is a rather vague term used by northern Cambrians to describe any of the various inhabitants of the city of Ragenport. That city is melting pot of races and cultures all of which are slightly strange to the typical Cambrian. There are two major groupings of humans in that city, however, which although not of Reet stock make up the majority of the population and those are the people described here.

The first are slightly shorter than the average Reet, brown-skinned and wiry, and generally with black hair. They call themselves 'Phemaire' in their own language, 'the People of the Sea'. They live in the cities of both the north and south coasts of the Blue Sea and as their name suggests they are excellent sailors, shipbuilders and traders. Despite being citizens of Cambria for nearly one thousand years they rarely migrate north although some few live in Pell's Hold.

The second group are smaller in number but tend on the whole to be taller and stronger of build than the Phemaire. Their generic name for themselves is 'Kantu' which just means 'the People' in their own language. They too have spread around the cities of the Blue Sea but they also range far inland to the south and it is from the Deep South they claim to have originated. They have darker skin than the Phemaire and also short curly hair. Those living on the northern shores of the Blue Sea have in the main adopted the lifestyle and culture of the Phemaire although they are also found among the farming community that supports the city and in the Southern Dales to the East.
