The Karzulan are a group of fierce barbarian raiders whose lands lie to the east of
Tarantis. They may have moved into the area when the
Paldorians moved east or perhaps they were the reason
for the Paldorians migration in the first place. In any case when the city of Tarantis was
built one of the reasons given for the thickness of its walls was to keep aout the Karzulan.
Although the Karzulan have no written history a rich fabric of legend is told by their
wisemen which seems to indicate some contact with the mighty Karak Empire in the distance past.
Although the women and children of the tribe work hard to provide sustenance for the tribe through the
gathering of wild berries and vegetables the lifestyle of the men is built exclusively
around raiding other tribes. The Karzulan raiders have a reputation for ruthlessness and
if they conquer a village they will decapitate the whole population. The heads of the victims
are then attached to tall poles around the village with the bodies draped upsidedown beneath.
It is said they do this as a religious ritual.
The Karzulan dress in flowing robes of white, tan or yellow which generally have a hood to
protect them from the sun. High ranking males may instead wear a turban. Their women wear
white robes with embroidered hems and are always required to cover their heads with hoods or
shawls. The Karzulan are reputed to be the tallest humans on Oerth and their current leader,
Hasan Ben Sober, is reputed to stand over 7' 6". He is said to have many wives and
children.
