Firbolgs are legendary giants of the forest and followers of the
Old Religion. Some say all of the Archdruids of that
religion have been shape-shifted Firbolgs for it is a skill they have naturally. In Cambria
few if any will have seen a Firbolg for they dwell in the deepest depths of the most ancient
of forests. It is said in old histories that there were six tribes of Firbolg within Cambria
and
St.Erin met with and made pacts with four of them. The
other two tribes were said to live in the Elven enclaves of Silverwood and Meriath.
Members of the Church of St. Erin as well as those
who follow the Old Religion know not to abuse nature in those woods. St. Erin himself
instructed his follows 'Do not anger the Firbolg' and most common folk still know what that
phrase means even if they have never seen one.
The most likely Cambrians to have seen a Firbolg are in fact travellers who have been to Sambia
for in that land Firbolgs are part of the Council and are more inclined to walk about in their
natural form. The tempestuous history of Sambia has forced all its many races to value
anything that contributes to racial harmony and the wise council of Firbolgs
is greatly
appreciated.
Firbolgs are said to have the gentlest of natures but like the
Goliaths they are terrible when angered. An adult Firbolg
may grow to reach 8 feet tall and weigh over 300 pounds. Legend has it that they are also very
long lived. The oldest Firbolg in Sambia is believed to be over have lived for more than 500 years.
