Thatis is a human sage based in the City. Unlike the majority of the City's population
Thatis was actually born there. Thatis's parents were also sages, his father specialising in
magic and his mother, a cleric of Athena, in religion. He is an expert in both his parents'
fields but his true love is delving into the big questions, the nature of the multiverse and
the gods and the connections between the planes. He is aware that some consider such subjects
dangerous and has been keen to follow his mother's patron, Athena, who he feels has enough
clout to protect him.
For long a member (and employee) of the Sages Guild and user of its vast library Thatis has relatively
recently been critical of that organisation's conservatism and the high fees it charges outsiders. He is a
great believer in the dissemination of knowledge although accepting that a tiny minority of
knowledge is dangerous. He also has an enquiring mind that thinks received wisdom should be
challenged and tested.
His lively intelligence is what attracted
Irina Tracos and
Magar the Magnificent into employing him on a number of joint
ventures through recently opened portals. In their current venture on Oerth they hope to use
his formal status as a cleric of Athena to good use in
Zothay.
Thatis is a great friend of Olo Heathertoes with whom he has
travelled on a number of occasions.
