Penva is a half-ogre who was brought up in a small village by human foster parents who
practised a peculiar
kind of religion which propounded the underlying goodness of the multiverse while
recognising no particular god. Penva
wholeheartedly embraced his foster parents’ beliefs and as he grew up took a succession of
vows which have underpinned his lifestyle ever since.
As a result of his vows Penva has little or no material posssesions, forsakes all stimulants
(legal and illegal), carries no weapon, wears no armour, will not use magical items
and considers all life sacred.
His obvious status as a 'holy man (well half-ogre)' mean that his great size and
strength do not frighten smaller humanoids (such as humans). When he wandered through a
portal into the Slums of The City he quickly became popular with the inhabitants who
appreciated his freely donated clerical skills. Penva believes that all may be redeemed
including those from traditionally evil races e.g. orcs, tieflings etc. Sometimes he
recognises that an individual's path to redemption must be strengthened by oaths and
acts of atonement. He is prepared to join 'adventuring parties' if he feels it is a logical
next step in his life's path but only on condition that they swear an oath to show mercy to
helpless prisoners. He will then put effort into helping those prisoners redeem themselves.
Although anyone with experience of the multiverse can clearly see that Penva's religion is
insane and that adherents are unlikely to last more than two minutes in the average 'dog eat
dog' plane of existence, in practice something strange seems to happen. Penva seems to create
his own little world around him where it is is the normal beliefs of the universe which seem
strange and his own which seems reasonable. Of course his survival is helped by a physique
which monstrous humanoids can (literally) look up to, a punch which can crumple armour and
a tough hide on which the weapons of would-be assassins have been known to shatter.
